Pair of "Mezzaluna" floor lamps by Bruno Gecchelin for Skipper, Italy, 1970s
Like all the pieces found in Gecchelin's Gesto collection, these floor lamps are a masterclass in simple, elegant design. The choice of name becomes clear when looking at the lampshade. Featuring the characteristic concave groove along the curved side, the half-moon can be rotated as to cast the light directly upwards or sideways, and also dimmed according to the user's needs and desires. The lamp's height can be adjusted using the telescopic chrome-plated pole, and the heavy, round white marble base ensures that the lamp stays put. As all members of the Gesto family, the Mezzaluna deals in indirect light, making it possible to be admired even when turned on, without blinding its groupies.
